OPEN LETTERS LINK-UP ROUND 3

Welcome back, everybody!

Life has been quite busy over here, my bachelor thesis needed to be finished and the tasks turned out to be a marathon, one can never fully please academic people, I know, good luck trying with German professors…, a wedding had to be prepared, the paper lamps arrived on time as well as the table clothes and we managed to pick the chairs up (I know there are delivery services but who on Earth, like normal people would pay $85 for a 5 kilometers ride? not us!!!), however, the real thing started when we had just a preparing time-frame of only two hours to set everything up!, but that’s a story for another time…, and so much more (applying for the master course, driving to the car check-in, and more). However, I am glad to be back and super excited for today’s post. I am co-hosting the open letters link-up together with my friend Julie over at ahopefulhood and am super pumped about it!

Open Letters

But now let’s get started with the letters, shall we?!

 Dear Baltic Sea,

Can’t wait to spend my summer vacation with you this year. Would you be so kind to heat up a little more until I come? I (but mostly my hot-blooded Mexican husband) would highly appreciate it, imagine that he wouldn’t even take a chance on the indoor pool around here, do you really think you stand a chance? I know I can’t expect Caribbean temperatures but a little bit more than freezing (ha!) 18 degrees Celsius would do the day, don’t you think?! And one more little thing still… would you try to act as you did 18 years ago when I had the time of my life with my parents? I know it’s impossible to bring back the past but even in the theater there are scenarios which are being recycled, so just recycle-up the one from before so we can perform a new happily play this summer for a great new memory from you, looking after it!

Dear wedding guests!

We are so thankful and truly happy that you all came and celebrated this wonderful occasion with us. Your presence, kind words, greetings, and wishes made our hearts pound and our lips smile. Even if couldn’t reunite all the family (America is far far away), we will always remember this day as a very special one and that is mainly because of you all celebrating it with us. Thanks again!

Dear Modern Family,

Why is it that I can’t stop binge-watching you? I just love every single episode and have watched all seasons multiple times, I mean come on, aren’t Claire and Cameron just hilarious (and everybody else as well!). By now my husband is getting super annoyed and begging me for a change, any suggestions?

Note from Javier: Sarah, are you kidding me? We might need to visit the doctor, this is not the first time, remember Friends? Ten seasons twice in one month? Or what about Gilmore Girls? it was fun the first time, but the fifth? (literally) and what about Suits? Yeah, the man is handsome but really? That many times? Let’s also not forget House of Cards, we waited so impatiently about ten months for the third season but it lasted only one rainy Saturday to watch it all!!! What about I drop this idea here: a blog about TV shows!!! (maybe if we were in the late 90’s hehe).

OPEN LETTERS

My friend Julie from a hopeful hood just started this new cool link up called open letters and I am totally excited to join her this month (and future months..)! The idea is simple, just write any note to somebody or something and share your thoughts with the rest of us, sounds good?!

Open Letters

Here we go:

Dear winter,
while I enjoy you during those cozy times of Christmas and New Year’s Eve when you bring me a lot of snow and ice, in the middle of April I am getting a little tired of you. Why don’t you go and hibernate and don’t come back until it’s December again!?

BLOGS I READ – MY TOP 10

As a blogger, I read a lot of other blogs as well and love to dive into the stories of some lovely ladies out there. Since this little corner of the internet is all about sharing my inspirations with you guys, I wanted to introduce you to some of my favorite bloggers and a few of their posts. The order doesn’t really matter, they are all absolutely worth reading!

Blogs

1. The Freckled Fox: Emily is the one who got me inspired in blogging about more than just travels in the first place and she blogs about fashion, recipes, maternity series (she has like 5 kids in 5 years – crazyly impressive!), hairstyles and so much more. Seriously, I love every post I read from her, my favorite, however, is probably this recipe for Maple Nut Bars. I tried them myself and they really are heavenly!

2. A Hopeful Hood: I truly love Julie’s blog so much, she is always so inspiring and uplifting in her posts and writes about getting married young, family, fixing up their little house, recipes, DIYs and much more. While I love her posts on marriage, my favorite entry has been her advice for life with a newborn, which you can read here.

3. Puppenzimmer: This blog is all about delicious recipes, indoor decoration, and seasonal tips and tricks. I especially love the new feature Reiseglück, which is a collection of different travel guides, my favorite is the London post!

4. Christmas Baking With SusieJ: Sue’s specialty are Christmas cookie recipes. She has everything from chocolate chip cookie to Speculatius. Every year on the first of December she will start with an advent calendar as well, which is always super original and often food/drinks related. However, she also includes essays on her blog and my favorite post was on how she prepared some Krautkuchen when I visited the last time, it’s so hilarious!

5. But First Create:  Nia is from Switzerland and writes all about lifestyle, beauty, interior and blogging tips. My personal favorite is her post on how to organize your blog in 30 days which you can find here.

6. My Travel Monkey: As the name suggests this blog is all about traveling, including some great travel tips, city guides and more. I especially enjoyed the USA bucket list which you can read about here.

7. Provinzkindchen: Hannah blogs about fashion, DIYs, recipes, blogging tips and much more. She just recently published this great recipe for homemade tortilla chips and guacamole to enjoy with your significant other while binge watching a Netflix series (or at any other occasion).

8. Sisters, Jeans and Messy Buns: Natascha and Katharina are sisters from Austria who just started their blog last year and love to write about food, lifestyle and their travels. My favorite is their entry about two nights in Bangkok which you can read here

9. Love Taza: Naomi lives with her family of 5 in New York City and on her blog she shares everything about their adventures in and outside the city. When the family travels they usually make these little films and my absolute favorite is from their babymoon to Puerto Rico

10. What A Wonderful World: Marcella has such a beautiful blog where she posts all about her travel adventures including stunning pictures! I especially love the post about her greatest adventure in which she talks about her dream of traveling to South America and how she actually ended up there, living her greatest adventure. Seriously, head over and read along now!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

FALLING FOR THE NIAGARA FALLS

It has been quite some time since I went to the U.S. for a year to live as an exchange student. Back then I was so lucky to have many opportunities to travel and discover the world spending one of the best times in my life over there thanks to my host parents Sue and Jorj. Among others, I had the chance to go and see the Niagara Falls which was simply impressive!

Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls

The first thing you see arriving at the falls is this great view of Ontario, Canada. I have actually never been to Canada, back then my visa didn’t allow me to leave the U.S. just in order to come back within a short amount of time, which was really a pity! Visiting Canada and maybe even seeing the Canadian side of the falls has since then, totally been on my bucket list.

THE LAST DAYS OF WINTER:
SKIING IN BOŽÍ DAR

Skiing

Even though spring has begun over a week ago, I didn’t want to miss the chance to say a properly goodbye to our good old friend winter; and what is better than seeing the season off with some snow pictures and winter sports in the mountains?!

Skiing

Some time ago we spent a great weekend in the little Czech town of Boží Dar and had a blast skiing in the sunshine, eating Goulash soup and dumplings and simply enjoying life. But check out yourself our winterly impressions!  Continue reading

MEXICO CITY: CASTILLO DE CHAPULTEPEC

Happy Easter to all of you! I hope you had a wonderful holiday, spent some quality time with friends and family, ate good food and didn’t let the weather bother you too much. Here is to a great start of a new week!

Castillo de Chapultepec

Some time ago during one of my visits to Mexico I had the chance to check out the Chapultepec Castle, or the Castillo de Chapultepec, as the locals call it, which is located just west of Mexico City on top of the mountain Chapultepec. The name Chapultepec is Nahuatl, one of the native languages of the indigenous and means literally “grasshopper’s hill”. The castle is easily reached by foot, just park your car on one of the parking lots directly in Chapultepec and start walking up the hill.

Castillo de Chapultepec

On your walk towards the top, you will most certainly find a lot of these little squirrels that are crossing your way everywhere and are clearly not afraid of people. Feeding, however, is forbidden …

MUSIC OF THE MONTH:
A SPRING PLAYLIST

Happy Tuesday friends! Spring has officially started and I cannot wait for the weather to actually notice it and start with some warmer temperatures, sunshine and less windy and rainy days. Other than the weather, life has been good over here, we are enjoying some cake and chocolate chili tea, planning new adventures, surrounded by beautiful fresh flowers and listening to the playlist of the month 24/7…

Spring Playlist

For the spring playlist, I gathered quite a mixture of different kinds of music including some regular pop songs, alternative tunes, electronic music as well as some hip-hop. I added a few old time favorites such as Coldplay, as well as some new discoveries of mine such as Fleur East or Kat Edmonson.

As always I’d love to hear your thoughts and any kind of recommendations you might have these days. Julie just suggested checking out The Arcadian Wild (you can find her post here). If you have any other tips and cared to share them in the comments, that would make my day :).

Thanks for visiting today and reading along. Here is to a great spring!

HONG KONG:
VICTORIA HARBOR – DAY AND NIGHT

Victoria Harbor

I really enjoyed our time in Hong Kong last year and would totally visit again if I should get a chance to do so. Hong Kong really is a megacity and has just so many things to see that one single visit doesn’t do its justice. I have blogged already about the Big Buddha in Lantau Island (you can go back and read my post here) and today I thought it would be great to share with you guys the probably most famous sight of Hong Kong: Victoria Harbor. To make it a little more interesting I gathered some pictures that I took during the day as well as shots during the night when Victoria Harbor is simply impressing.

SPRINGTIME – WHAT I LOVE ABOUT IT

Springtime

Even though springtime is not one of my absolute favorite seasons, it does feel good to say goodbye to cold winter days, that didn’t even have much snow, and to welcome a lighter time of the year. With spring around the corner, the mood lightens and I feel like I have a lot more energy than during those dark winter days. And who knows, maybe this might actually be a motivation to start working out more?! It definitely is a great opportunity for new beginnings, new goals, thoughts and fresh plans.
